Know when it’s time for a check-up

It would be nice if cars never break down, but in reality they do. And so, you need to take care of your cars. One way you can do this is knowing when your car is up for some maintenance. So, we have here the maintenance schedule for a Chevrolet Impala.

Time for a check-up

Time for a check-up

Even if this is not your car model, the distance and schedule listed here is not that far for other models. But to be sure, consult the Owner’s Manual of your vehicle.

By the way, the schedule is measured in miles traveled. So better use your odometer as a reference. Miles traveled is a better way of judging the wear and tear of your car since time of ownership doesn’t accurately show how much the car has been used. You may own the car for only four months, but drive it interstate often, then the impact on the car is greater. Same goes when if you own a car for a year but it sat in the garage for eight months. Time is not that good of a benchmark.

Here we list the distances traveled and what to do once your car reaches that mileage. Remember that the values are for every number miles traveled; for example, you need to rotate the tires again after 15,000 miles since rotating the tires is done after 7,500 miles. So you better be clear on that.

Here is the maintenance schedule:

7,500 Miles (12 500 km)

Rotate the tires to ensure even wear on all the tires.

15,000 Miles (25 000 km)

Check the engine air filter and passenger cabin air filter. Clean or replace them when necessary.

50,000 Miles (83 000 km)

Need to change your transmission fluid and filter.

60,000 Miles (100 000 km)

Check the accessory drive belt; replace when necessary.

100,000 Miles (166 000 km)

Check your spark plug wires and replace your spark plugs.

150,000 Miles (240 000 km)

Your cooling system needs to have a makeover. Flus out and change the coolant in the radiator. Also, this is the time you check, clean and replace (if there’s any broken component) parts of your engine cooling system.
